For a very affordable laptop, the Modern 14 looks pretty neat. Nothing out of the ordinary, but the overall style is nice, if simple. A charcoal metallic paint job covers the entire body, and it sparkles with a bit of flair when it catches the light.

The body is aluminum, though the sample’s paint job hides the truth; This is a nice change from the standard plasti hull in this price range. The keys are also white-edged and feature a white backlight, which adds to the fun.

(Keyboard backlighting is also not uncommon for this class of laptop.)

Speaking of screen size, this 14-inch screen has a Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels). The screen isn’t outstanding, but it’s clear and bright, so there’s no room for complaints. The IPS panel has good off-axis viewing angles as well, without distortion or blurring when viewed from an angle. This is the screen you should expect in a laptop this price or less, maybe a little better than that.

The keyboard It’s a serviceable typing experience. The keystrokes feel a little soft, but you do get some tactile feedback, so it’s not quite as soft. And the layout is a thumbs up.
