NOCTUA NH D12L COOLING AIR is a low profile 120mm CPU cooler designed to combine outstanding quiet cooling performance with superior case compatibility.
At just 145mm tall (13mm lower than Noctua’s regular 120mm models), it fits many 4U enclosures as well as narrower tower casings previously limited to solutions with 92mm fans.
At the same time, its design of five dual-tower heatsinks and the latest NF-A12x25r 120mm fan enables it to achieve a level of efficiency that exceeds many full-height 120mm models.
With its single-fan configuration and asymmetric fin assemblies, the NH-D12L provides 100% RAM compatibility on AMD AM4/AM5 and LGA1700/1200 by moving away from the memory slots.
Topped off by the popular SecuFirm2™ mounting system, Noctua’s award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound and a 6-year manufacturer’s warranty, the NH-D12L is the perfect choice for applications that require serious cooling performance but are no match for the larger NH-U12A.
Features of the NOCTUA NH D12L COOLING AIR
145mm drop for wider tire compatibility
While Noctua’s regular 120mm CPU coolers have a height of 158mm, the NH-D12L’s have a height of just 145mm. This allows to fit not only a wide variety of 4U rack server cases and many tower-style enclosures that aren’t wide enough for 158mm units, but also some Small Form Factor (SFF) and larger Mini-ITX chassis.
More performance at low altitude
Despite its lower height, the NH-D12L easily outperforms 92mm coolers. It can also outperform popular 120mm units such as the NH-U12S, and often comes close to Noctua’s award-winning NH-U12A flagship in 120mm.
NF-A12x25r PWM Circular Fan
Introduced in 2018, the NF-A12x25 from Noctua is widely considered to be the best 120mm fan on the market. The circular frame variant used in the NH-D12L provides the same popular quiet cooling performance but makes it possible to reduce the overall cooler rise without risking compatibility issues with heatsinks or tall motherboard shrouds.
100% RAM compatibility in LGA1700/1200 and AM4/AM5
Due to its asymmetrical design, the NH-D12L does not skimp on RAM slots in Intel LGA1700 (LGA17xx family) / LGA1200 / LGA115x and AMD AM4 / AM5 motherboards, ensuring easy access to modules and 100% compatibility with DIMMs that feature It has tall heat spreaders or RGB lighting. On the LGA2066, the rear fin stack will overhang the RAM slots on the left side of the socket, so RAM modules must not exceed 45mm in height.
Support for PWM and low noise converters
The supplied NF-A12x25r 120mm fan with NH-D12L PWM supports automatic speed control through the motherboard: full performance under load, virtually silent at idle! In addition, the maximum fan speed can be reduced from 2,000 to 1,700 rpm with the supplied low-noise adapter for quieter operation.
Dual fan options
The NH-D12L comes with a second pair of fan clips that can be used to mount a second NF-A12x25r PWM fan either on the front or on the rear fin stack. It should be noted, however, that the second fan is usually above either the RAM or the I/O board thus increasing the overall height beyond 145mm.

Noctua’s SecuFirm2™ mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of installation. Support for Intel LGA1700 (LGA17xx family), LGA1200, LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1151, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA20xx (LGA2066, LGA2011-0, LGA2011-3), as well as AMD AM4 and AM5, SecuFirm2™ carrier included with NH -D12L is easy Fitting, provides perfect connection pressure and will stand the test of time even under heavy use.
Compatibility with past and future intakes
Thanks to Noctua’s SecuFirm™ ecosystem, the NH-D12L can be made compatible with legacy LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided free of charge. If technically feasible, Noctua will also provide upgrade kits for future sockets, making the NH-D12L a safe long-term investment.
Thermal compound NT-H1

Welded interface between heat pipes and fins
With several heatsinks, the fins are mounted on the heat pipes. Due to the different coefficients of thermal expansion for copper and aluminum, this trap can wear out over years of thermal cycling, which can result in reduced performance. By contrast, the NH-D12L’s fins are heat pipe welded to ensure a superior thermal interface that does not deteriorate even after many years of use.
6 year manufacturer’s warranty
